If London had its Royal Wedding earlier this year in April, this October the Royal Palace of Yogyakarta in Indonesia will be the setting for Java’s own grand royal wedding between Princess Gusti Raden Ajeng Nur Astuti Wijareni, the youngest daughter of the Sultan & Governor of Yogyakarta, and Mr. Achmad Ubaidillah.
The wedding will take place on the 18 October 2011, which was chosen through ancient Javanese numerology calculations that are based on the dates of birth of both the bride and the groom.
The traditional Ijab Qabul Javanese ceremony will take place at the Penenpen Mosque at 07.30 in the morning which will then be followed by the Kirab Temanten or the Royal Wedding Parade were all members of royal family will attend including Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.
The Royal Wedding Parade will be an amazing sight of colour, traditional culture & pageantry for all local residents and tourists watching street side in Yogyakarta. The parade will be led by five royal horse carriages, with the newlyweds riding in the Jongwiyat, a horse carriage built in the 1880’s.
The royal wedding will also coincide with the 255th anniversary celebrations of Yogyakarta City with its finale at the Jogja Java Carnival on October 22nd.
This year, the Jogja Java Carnival 2011 has purposely chosen the theme: “Magniworld”, presenting the magnificent world. “We hope the theme can establish Yogyakarta as the home of the world’s arts. Yogyakarta is the perfect place to express arts and cultural expressions” said Ferry Astono, chairman of the committee for Yogyakarta’s 255th anniversary, as reported by travel.kompas.com. The Jogja Java Carnival 2011 will maintain the concept of a night carnival, and this year it will parade the wonders of the world, art performances, and appearances by international art troupes.
