Committee Members: Bev Vaillancourt – chair, Josh Ziegler, Karen
Geitz, Tim Helgeson, Dave Fuhrmann, Marcia Mercer, Joan Whitehurst –

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. Compliance with the open
meetings law was verified. Marcia Mercer was appointed committee
recorder. The following items were discussed per agenda listing:
Purpose of the Committee: The purpose of the Lakes Committee is to
research, advise, and/or recommend policy changes to the town board
regarding lake issues that come before the committee.
Public Input: The committee decided that, as topics are addressed on
the agenda, any individual may add to the discussion of the Lakes
Committee.
Lake Use: boats, kayaks, tubing, fishing, sailboats, swimmers, jet
skis, paddle carriers, scuba divers, knee boarders, air chair riders
Who Uses the Lake: Local property owners and an assumed high
percentage of non-property owners, though that percentage is unknown.
Identified Lake Rights: There was consensus that lake users have the
right to be safe, have others obey the law, not have damage done to
one’s property, and have access to information regarding rules and
regulations.
Lake Issues Identified (some concerns apply to both Lake Redstone and
Dutch Hollow Lake):
•Lack of education concerning boater safety
•Proposed no-ski ordinance north of the Section 11 boat landing
•Noise
•Reckless disobey of state law and local ordinances
•Boater safety
•Enforcement of the rules
•Alcohol consumption and boater operation
•Etiquette – general inconsideration of the rights of others
•Skier safety
•Pontoon boat safety
•Crossing private property to get to the lake
•Beach clubs
•Signage
•Cleanliness and maintenance of the boat landings
•Lake level and enforcement of slow-no wake lake-wide
Prioritization of issues to be addressed by the Lakes Committee:
•Proposed no ski ordinance
•Signage for the lake
•Education – rules/safety
•Enforcement
•Noise
•Policy concerning when emergency slow no-wake occurs
•Boat landings
Others to be addressed when/if possible.
A suggestion was made that all committee members should tour both
lakes. This will be considered at the next meeting.
Next Lakes Committee Meeting will meet on May 18, 2009, at 7 P.M.
