July 6, 2009 minutes

The meeting was called to order at 6:10 P.M. by Lakes Committee chair
Bev Vaillancourt

Present were committee members Dave Fuhrmann, Joan Whitehurst, Josh
Ziegler, Karen Geitz, Tim Helgeson, Marcia Mercier, and Bev
Vaillancourt. Four members of the public also were in attendance.

Motion by Karen, seconded by Dave to approve the agenda. Motion
carried. 

Motion by Dave, seconded by Tim to approve the minutes of the June 5,
2009 meeting. Motion carried.

Motion by Marcia, seconded by Karen to approve the minutes of the June
17, 2009 meeting. Motion carried. 

Public Input – Tom McManamy discussed boating violations on the lake.
Cheryl Becker added additional information about a slow no-wake
violation and expressed concern about the lack of an informational
buoy where the violation occurred. 

The committee discussed the need for lake users to be educated about
boating laws. Dave asked for an update on whether the town board had
discussed publishing the CPR flyer written by Gary Egger. Bev stated
that changes were needed to the flyer, and that to date the town board
had not discussed publishing the flyer. Dave made a motion, seconded
by Josh to recommend that the town board allocate $500 to print the
flyer for distribution. Motion carried on a 6 – 1 vote. 

Bev showed a map of Lake Redstone created by county mapping that shows
buoy placements according to the 2001 ordinance. Bev added citations
written on Lake Redstone for May and June to the map. She noted that
additional citations will be added as she gets that information, and
that this will be part of the information gather about Lake Redstone
for the committee to discuss at the end of the summer season. She also
noted that she will suggest to the town board that the public have
access to the map and be able to comment on suggestions for changes on
buoy placement, or to comment on buoy placement according to the 2001
ordinance. Bev also noted that the some of the GPS points on the
proposed buoy ordinance considered by the town board last April were
incorrect. Dave asked if that meant the proposed buoy ordinance was
invalid. Bev stated that she was unsure of how the town board
currently viewed the proposed ordinance. 

Bev showed photos she had taken of the boat landings for Lake
Redstone. Josh shared photos of signage he had taken at a lake up
north. The consensus was that boat landing signage and trash issues
must be improved, and that money should be budgeted for this by the
town. This would include signs at both Lake Redstone and Dutch Hollow
Lake. Josh will get estimates on signs. Bev will get an estimate for
improving the look of trash bins. This will be discussed again at the
next Lakes Committee meeting. 

Motion made by Dave, seconded by Marcia to adjourn. Motion carried.
